Hunson, why do you love Oregon? I am thinking of moving there later on in my life, so I am wondering why you, a native, love it. I want to learn to love it too. :]

I love Oregon because this is where I grew up. I thankfully live in an area which gives me access to both the coast, mountains, and desert. It's a great feeling being able to look out my window is always ALWAYS see green trees.

What are the best jobs to get in Portland right now if you are under 30 and still in college?

I don’t know. It all depends on what you want to do. Normally I just use my school’s career center to find jobs so maybe that’s an option you can try.

Do you plan on leaving Oregon after University? Or anytime [after]?

I haven’t really thought about it. I don’t plan for the future very well. I generally take things day by day or at most a few weeks in advance. I love Portland. But I’ll probably have to move when I go to graduate school.

How is Portland, or Oregon weather in general, really? When I see photos of the coast, it’s so amazingly beautiful & makes me want to live there some day. But is the weather really that bad? I like blue skies too.. :/

The weather in Portland is different than other places in Oregon. Right now it’s around 65-70. So it’s quite nice.

I’m thinking about moving to Portland in a couple months, how bad’s the cost of living there?

I don’t think the cost of living in Portland is that much compared to LA or NY. You can get a really nice apartment right in the heart of downtown in a Gold LEED certified building for somewhere between 800-1000 a month. Better yet, you can save a ton of money by living in the suburbs of Portland and take the MAX light-rail system into town. I ride the train everyday.

What’s the coolest thing about Portland, OR?

POWELL’S BOOK STORE—largest independent new and used bookstore in the world.

My friend just moved to Portland and doesn’t know anyone. How should she meet people?

Umm… I’d say co-workers if she works, then go from there. My other guess would be Tumblr and the Portland Tag? Or maybe go to The Saturday Market. There’s always interesting people there.

You go to Portland State, correct? I’ve been looking at colleges to go to to pursue Graphic Design and was wondering, why you chose Portland State over somewhere else like the Art Institute.

I have friends who are graphic design majors at the Art Institute and the only difference they’ve said was they have more facilities to work in. But the projects they do are pretty much the same as Portland State. I mean, learning Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, and Fireworks is the same whether you go to PSU or AI Portland. I chose Portland State because it’s more affordable. ALTHOUGH… if you decide to go to the Art Institute, you get a shit load of free art supplies like a rolly portfolio backpack, sketchpads, pens, pencils, etc. Whichever one you choose, both schools are only 15 blocks away. I walk by the Art Institute all the time.
