Simon Fleming

I was born in London, lived for a long time in Yorkshire and moved to Sydney in early 1994. Most of my career has been in research in photonics. My main interests worth sharing on the web are computers and motorcycling.

Work - Photonics Research

My technical speciality is in the field known as Photonics - broadly speaking, optical communications. Photonics is, amongst many other things, the physical hardware infrastructure that makes the internet possible. I am a Professor in the School of Physics at The University of Sydney. Motorcycling

My main motorcycle interest is Panthers - see The Panther Page and the Yahoo! Panther email discussion group. Having owned for a while a 1923 Waratah, I got interested in Australian Motorcycles.

Computers

I have written a small amount of Shareware or Freeware:

A Psion II cross-assembler, PsiAss, written in Turbo Pascal on the PC, it assembles Psion II machine-code.
An optical fibre parameter calculator, Fibre Calc, in HotPaw Basic for the Palm.
Some Korean language utilities including a dictionary KorEng, and vocabulary tester for the Palm and a Delphi program to romanise the Korean script.
