I first made the following sketch as a rough idea:
I thenstarted by using my sumi brush, but soon realized it would be very difficult to get any real detail from it. After buying a smaller brush, I continued until the linework was done. Finally, I used pastels to add some color to the mix.

For this assignment, I chose to do a picture in the style of Zak Smith. I found his use of color, and his style really interesting and so I thought I'd try to do something similar. I thought the best way to make it look similar to one of his works without using paint would be to use ink. As someone who likes to feel out a picture and revise as necessary, I found using ink very challenging, because one false move messed up the picture. Zak also usually has very busy backgrounds, so I tried to create an interesting background as well.
