Rutherford 912 Group

Hello Rutherford County Patriots!

Here’s our first “official” Rutherford 912 Information and Action Plan email (which we spoke about at the last 912 meeting).

December 3rd 912 Meeting Recap

The December 3rd 912 Meeting was great!  We had a lot of new faces and interest in the group.   There will be no meeting at the beginning of January, due to New Year’s Day. Therefore, the next Rutherford 912 Group Meeting will be January 29, 2010.

HOME:  Although we usually only include highlights of the presentations, because this talk was an End of the Year Recap and Challenge for 2010, we have included the entire video.  http://j.mp/8Zh3KD

LOCAL:  I gave a challenge for the 912 Group in 2010, and spoke about ways we will grow in the New Year, with new challenges and opportunities (namely the 2010 elections).  http://j.mp/64dkTE

STATE:  Zoran gave us tools to find information on North Carolina politics and happenings.  http://j.mp/8fkZCS

NATIONAL:  Dave Judy presented a very interesting talk about hyperinflation and the Weimar Republic. It was informative and timely.  http://j.mp/8lBQnZ

December 7th Commissioner Meeting Recap

A video of the Commissioner’s Meeting is available at the link on the right side of this email.  The video does not include the portion of the meeting that occurred after the closed session. At that time, a vote was taken to accept a grant to remodel a building in the county.  The vote to accept was 4 to 1, with Commissioner Holland voting against.

This commission meeting was an interesting one (if you subtract the extremely long and boring auditor’s report). Commissioners voted to proceed with spending $86K from the building fund, to be combined with the $800K grant for the airport. Commissioner McIntosh and County Manager John Condrey spoke, at length, about how the county cannot spend money from the building fund for employee salaries. However, here is some information Zo found from the NC State Law books that refutes their claims:

· State law locks in some of the sales taxes the county receives, however that number is no more than 1/4 of the total sales tax revenue the county receives. That is, 60% from one 0.5% tax and 40% from another 0.5% tax must be used for school capital expenditures of related debt. So the county still has 1.5% of sales tax at it's disposal for spending as it sees appropriate. In the 2008/2009 budget, that meant that of the $11.3 million in sales taxes collected, only about $3 million had to be spent on school capital expenses. The rest was at the county's disposal.

· The county's primary purpose is to ensure efficient and ongoing operation of infrastructure and services that ALL taxpayers benefit from, depend on and approve of. (Roads, schools, sheriff, EMS, detention center, animal control and very few other services fall under this category)

· So if the county decides to make their financial operation simpler, by designating certain portion of tax collections to various "fund buckets", that makes sense.

· However, claiming that once the money is designated to a category we end up being held hostage by that categorization, and we can excuse ourselves in not paying for county employee's salaries, while paying for airport enhancements is just lunacy.

· The county governing body exists so that it makes sure our tax money are properly spent to provide the essential services we pay for. Once they stop doing that, and use excuses like funds, buckets and such, they are not fulfilling their duties.

During the presidential debates, Sen. McCain used the following phrase to portray then-Senator Obama's point about spending only a certain type of money: "Obama’s not going to draw water out of your side of the bucket! He’s going to draw water out of the other side of the bucket!"  I can't think of a better way to describe our current predicament with the county…

I really believe that this meeting was a victory for liberty-minded people in Rutherford County! Commissioners spent a lot of time defending and arguing previous points that they made. Commissioner McIntosh lost his patience a number of times. We have struck a nerve!  Truth will always prevail!

There will be a meeting of the Commissioners on Monday, December 21st, to discuss the possible company coming to Rutherford County, per the grant mentioned above (with the Holland “no” vote).

December 15th Health Care Rally in DC

As you all know, Healthcare is still bubbling in the Senate. We must stand against this freedom-stealing, tax and spending bill!

Americans For Prosperity will be hosting a Code Red Rally on December 15th, in Washington DC.  They have now added a bus from Charlotte!  The cost is only $25—you can get more information and sign up here:  http://afpncdcbus1215.eventbrite.com/ Space is limited!

Senator Coburn made an interesting point on a healthcare conference call the other night. He said that even if we are able to take back the House and Senate in 2010, the healthcare bill (if passed before then) will not be able to be repealed, because President Obama would immediately veto the measure.  We would then have to wait until a conservative won the White House in 2012.  We MUST stop nationalized healthcare now!

Copenhagen Climate Change Conference

In case you missed the LIVE broadcast from Copenhagen, from Americans for Prosperity:  http://americansforprosperity.org/120209-hot-air-tour-live-copenhagen

The Obama Administration is pursuing perhaps its biggest power grab yet. Climate Czar Carol Browner is trying to have the EPA regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant under the 1970 Clean Air Act, a sweeping global warming regulatory agenda without a vote of Congress.

Holiday Christmas Card Idea

One of our 912ers, Joyce Russell, sent me an idea of how we can stand up for God and Country during the Christmas season.  When sending out Christmas cards, write IN GOD WE TRUST on the back of the envelope.  (Obviously, this can be done on bills and other correspondence, as well.)

In recent years, we have faced many assaults on Christianity, and our freedoms in general.  This idea originated after Post Offices, in 1992, took down signs that said “In God We Trust”.  This is an easy way to show a commitment to God – especially during His holiday season.

America’s national motto:  In God We Trust!

Rutherford 912 Pledge

We are hard at work on completing the Rutherford 912 Pledge brochure, which I passed around at the last meeting.  Here is a list of the items chosen by the Rutherford 912 Group:  http://j.mp/4znXka

Wes Westmoreland had an excellent idea - which we are working toward. He suggested that we distribute the brochures in a two-step process:

  • Beginning in January 2010 - print brochures that (a) introduce the 912 group and (b) explain the 9 items and 12 values that are important to Rutherford County.
  • Beginning in mid-February 2010 - When the candidate filing date has closed, we will ask all candidates to sign the pledge. At that time, we will print signed brochures that we can distribute across the county.
We believe this two-step distribution process will be the most effective way to get the 912 pledge into the hands of as many Rutherford county voters as possible.

Be looking for more information about the brochures at the beginning of 2010.

Hope you have a great week of parties, shopping and preparing for the upcoming Christmas holiday. Don’t forget to take time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas—”For unto us a Son is born. Unto us a Child is given……”
