Spirit Week Continues - June 10 - 11
Two More Days - June 10-11

June 10 - Stuffed Animal Day
June 11 - Mix-n-Match Day (aka - wear whatever you want - two different colored shoes, stripes and plaid, whatever crazy combination you can find in your closet - day!)

Thank yous to Hellen, June, and Asha for running games in the multipurpose room during the early part of Spirit Week.

Distinguished School Ice Cream Party -
Tuesday, June 15 | 12:45-1:25pm

On Tuesday, June 15, there will be a school-wide ice cream party in honor of Peralta being named a Distinguished School.

The ice cream party will be outside and help is needed. If you can get to school a bit early that day for pick-up (remember it is a minimum day) or you can do a late lunch hour at the school scooping ice cream and dispersing jimmies - that would be great.

P.E.A.C.E - Peralta’s Enriching And Creative Environment
Peralta’s Before & After- School Program 2010-2011 | Applications due June 10, 2010

Applications are due for 2010-2011 childcare/enrichment by Thursday, June 10

A friendly reminder that applications for 2010-2011 before and after-school care/enrichment were sent home with your children last Friday and need to be returned no later than Thursday, June 10, 2010.

Please return applications to the P.E.A.C.E box (may still be labeled PASEP) located in Peralta’s office. If you have any suggestions for next year’s program, such as enrichment classes you would like to have offered, homework time, playtime, etc., it is most welcome and may be submitted in the PEACE box, as well.

P.E.A.C.E will be the sole childcare/enrichment provider for the year 2010-2011, and they are excited to present Peralta families with the best program funding allows. This being said, more participants equals more cool enrichment classes! The program will be offered on a sliding-scale, according to income. As we all know, due to budget cuts they are hoping that suggested fees will help supplement the program's enrichment cost and thus be able to offer more enrichment opportunities to the children!

**If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sherice Tyler (510.502.4138).

Peralta Parent Teacher Group News

Get Your Peralta Tshirt - Friday | 8-9am
Kag will be selling t-shirts for the LAST time this school year on Friday, June 11 from 8-9am.

Celebrate the D-U Way - Thursday, June 10 | 6-8pm
Please join the Peralta Diversity-Unity Committee for an end of year celebration and mini meeting on Thursday, June 10 | 6 - 8pm at the home of the Stamper-Kurns.

The agenda is simple:
  • CELEBRATE WHAT WAS: review the many activities of our committee in '09-'10 and appreciate all the helping hands that made our impact broad.
  • PLAN WHAT CAN BE: explore our hopes for the D-U committee for
'10-'11 school year and sign up for the parts that most interest us.
Pizza and salad will be served. (The donation hat, PPTG style, may be out for those who want to chip in a buck or two for the pizza.) Bring drinks and dessert if you have those items around. Otherwise, just show up. Kids and new comers always welcome!

The Quilt Raffle is Here!
Now is the time - keep selling those raffle tickets! Peralta students have worked with Artist-in-Residence Ellen Oppenheimer to create a stunning, one-of-a-kind masterpiece this year: a bold, vibrant, warm and wonderful 65” x 80” cotton quilt.

Every student received a packet of tickets to sell to neighbors, friends and coworkers. This annual fundraiser brings in over $4000, and someone… it could be you, will be the lucky winner of handmade quilt.
The drawing will be June 17, at the Peralta 5th Grade Graduation.

Peralta kids are involved in making the quilt from start to finish: designing the pattern, dying the cloth, and even assembling and sewing. Peralta quilts can be found in many prestigious places such as the U.S. Embassy in Moscow as well as Kaiser Permanente offices, Children's Hospital Oakland, and other public venues. They were recently exhibited at the San Francisco Airport. Could your residence be the next prestigious locale?

You can click for the flyer here. Remember all proceeds go to fund the wonderful art programs at Peralta.

Please return all ticket stubs in an envelope with your name on it to Sonia in the library or Christie B. on the playground. Sonia can also provide more tickets if you find that you just can't stop selling.
Become a "Steward" to Peralta's Beloved Gardens
One of the things loved MOST about our beloved school is the extensive gardens. They do require some TLC, however, and a few devoted "stewards" to help guide the process.

The Garden Committee is looking for a few new members for the upcoming school year. Help organize garden work days, integrate garden coordinator with school curriculum and staff, look into grants or take on special garden and "greening" projects!
