Project Description

In the last year the center managment of student profile is becoming an urgent issue and needs.Palestinian Minstry of education needs to certifcate the diploms and academic transcripts for students also many student move from one university to another. Moreover,there is a need to centrally manage/monitor students financial aids. Therefore,the ministry decided to build a national student registry.such that, each semester Palestinian universities has to send the academic record of every student to the ministry . The ministry will then update and integrate the academic records according to the data combined from all universities into the national student registry. The ministry wants to specify a shared ontology (in OWL) such that all universities can exchange their students profiles in RDF format and the data can be automatically validated and integrated after that.

Academic Record Ontology

Representing the ontology in ORM : ORM build a concepual modeling for student Registy ,the ORM Model clarify the bussiness roles ,costrains ,object type and its releations.
- Object Type: Student,University,Faculty,Program and Academic Transacript
- Rules and Constrains:
  - Each Student must has at least one StudentID(Mandatory)
  - Each Student must has at most one StudentID(Uniqueness)
  - Each Student must has at least one AcademicTranscript(Mandatory)
  - Each AcademicTranscript must has at least one AcademicTranscriptID(Mandatory)
  - Each University must has at least one UniversitytID(Mandatory)
  - Each University must has at most one UniversitytID(Mandatory)

Representing the ontology in OWL:As we know that ORM usful for in conceptial modeling for buiness roles ,but what about i we need to check if there is a contradiction between these roles ?how i contolled the message exchanged between information systems?so we need a standered for this issue(OWL) .Owl is a part of Semantic Web Vision,information with exact meaning ,strong languae with greater machine interpretability and large vocabulary .

Validation of and reasoning on the ontology: Protege used in the process of validation and reasoning of the ontology ,below are snapshots for reasoning process

How to use the ontology- Two RDF cases

In our implemnation we build two Acadimic transacripts RDF Files based on OWL ontology we built .one of them are for Birzeit Unversity and the other for Al-Najh University. In our ontology(Owl) we defind all required Concepts,Classes and Properties related to palestinian universities ,also we defined the value constraint that be Accepted in the Data Type propert Range. based on the ontology we build our two Academic Transacript RDF.
